Periorbital circles, also known as dark circles are pesky little nuisances that a lot of us have to deal with. There are many factors that can cause darkness under eyes, but they can also be hereditary.
What Is Causing Black Under Eyes?
The skin around the eyes is the thinnest skin on the body, it’s so translucent that you can see the blood vessels underneath, which is what causes the black colouring under your eyes.
Your eye shape also is a factor also. People with deeper set eyes have more shadows cast underneath their eyes, which can be easily counteracted with some concealer.
Things like allergies, medications, lack of nutrition, age, and sleep deprivation can also be factors.
How Do I Get Rid Of Dark Under Eyes?
For one, make sure that you are getting enough sleep and eating properly. It also helps to drink lots of water, which helps to plump up the skin from the inside out.
Covering them up with makeup
I find that using a cream concealer that matches your face like this one, applied in a triangular shape, helps even out the colour all around the eyes. If using a concealer in a shade matching your skin makes the darkness look a little ashy, you will have to use a salmon or peach coloured concealer on those areas also. I personally love Eve Pearl’s Salmon concealers for this.

Cold compresses
A cold compress can help constrict the blood vessels around the eye area, helping to calm down the puffiness and darkness.
To do this, all you have to do is place a few ice cubes in a face cloth, wrap it up, and hold it against your eyes!
Turmeric
Turmeric is a known anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant, which can help soothe down swelling.
To do this, mix about ½ a teaspoon of turmeric powder with a bit of warm water, or even room temperature tea water. Just mix enough water in to get a paste like consistency. Apply under your eyes for 10-15 mins and then rinse off.
Be careful, turmeric stains!!!
Moisturise under your eyes!!!!
Since the skin is SO thin underneath the eyes, it definitely needs some help. A product specifically geared for use under the eyes is ideal, as they will have ingredients that not only smooth out the fine lines in the skin, but help fix pigment that originates from blood vessels. Check out Revitol’s eye cream and their list of ingredients and how they work to help you get rid of your circles.
The most important thing is to always stay healthy! Diet and lifestyle are huge factors in how we look and how we will age. I know that sounds totally cliché, but once you start drinking more water, exercising more regularly, and eating more wholesome foods, you’ll notice a huge difference in every aspect of you 🙂
