I had the pleasure to doll up one of my favourite people, Meg, for a wedding she was attending last weekend. I’ve done her hair and makeup a few times before, and I think by now, she fully trusts me, so she basically told me to do whatever I want!
She showed me a picture of the dress she was wearing, and I started coming up with some ideas as to what I wanted to do with her.
I knew immediately that I wanted to give Meg a full updo to show the intricate neckline of the dress, and also because every time I’ve done her hair, she’s always asked for it to be down! ha ha! I wanted to do something different.
This is what I came up with:
She did plan on dancing the entire night away, and I wanted some hair pieces to be able to move with her, to avoid looking like she had a super coiffed helmet on. And this is the outcome, a romantic, fun and flirty hair updo, that still looked fancy enough to wear to a wedding!
I wanted to try something different than I usually do on her eyes. I wanted her lid to be really shimmery, and to smoke out her liner, really focusing on the outer corners.
I applied a shimmery golden olive colour on her lids, applied a gel liner, and smoked that out at the lash line and outer corners. I didn’t want too much going on in the crease, so I just applied a matte color to blend everything out.
For some reason, I knew that Meg was wanting to rock a red lip that night! ha ha! Meg is usually a little-to-no makeup girl, and even for myself, wearing bold lips is still a little tricky. There’s the maintenance, but most of all, I always find that if I’m not wearing the correct eye makeup and put on a bold lip, something always looks off balance.
We put on the red lip, and it looked awesome! The look was so classic and I felt like everything was balanced.

It seemed like the theme of the day that day was to step out of our comfort zones and to try something new. I mean, it is JUST makeup, it is temporary and we could just take it off if we didn’t like it.
Needless to say, Meg loved her look. She danced the night away, and assured me that everything stayed in place. Yay!
When was the last time you decided to try something new with your hair or makeup? What was the outcome, did you love or hate it?
