Not too long ago, I had my own makeup artistry freelancing business. I got to meet a tonne of cool people (even some famous ones!), who came from all walks of life. Since I had so much interaction with the talents, that usually meant I learned a lot about them. We’d share fitness tips, makeup tricks, and they’d also tell me about their upbringing.
Having worked on an array of different people, I have encountered many different clients who had “imperfections” about them that they didn’t feel so confident about.
Even though I didn’t think the scars were as horrendous as my clients felt they were (to be honest, I don’t even really notice them for the most part!), I too have surgical scars on my body that make me think twice about wearing a 2-piece on the beach. Most people probably aren’t even looking at me close enough to notice them, but it does make me feel very self-conscious.
My clients would ask me if I could do anything to help conceal their imperfections. I mean, I am able to change the color of scars and make them less noticeable, but I was never able to FILL in an imperfection. I couldn’t change the texture of the skin. Until I discovered THIS dermal filler…
What is Dermaflage?
This product is a silicone based topical cosmetic filler that is used to help conceal and even out skin imperfections such as indented or recessed facial imperfections, like ice pick scars, pock marks, and even wrinkles!
How Does It Work?
The product is silicone based, and mimics a skin when used to fill in sunken scars on your face, or anywhere else on your body!
It uses a technique that has been used by many special effects makeup artists who create cool skin textures and fixtures to those crazy looking characters you see in movies. The same technique can be used when trying to fill in imperfections in the skin.
They have perfectly mixed the concoction and skin tone colors for you in a ready to use syringe-type package, so you don’t have to worry about a thing, except applying it. Every starter kit comes ready for you to use! Check out their FAQ for more info
Does it work?
With some practice, the product does help to conceal and make your imperfections less noticeable.
What kind of scars will it work on? Will it work on wrinkles?
Dermaflage will work on any non-raised skin imperfection (keloids are an example of a raised scar), on your face or your body. It can cover certain acne scars, large pores, nose piercings, etc. It will even work on deep wrinkles and frown lines! Heck, I’ve even seen a photo of a filled cleft lip. There are a tonne of photos on their website. Check out these before and after results:
What Comes In a Starter Kit
The kits come with 2 syringes with the Dermaflage in it, each a different color, so you can find a perfect match for your skin. You’ll get some application tools to help you apply the product, and a “Skin Texture Pad” which is used to add some texture to the area you concealed. You can always purchase refill kits, when you need to stock up on parts of the kit, or need to replace certain items.
How do you apply it?
Application does take a bit of practice to perfect, like with any makeup! Here are the basic instructions
1) Make sure the area of skin you are concealing is clean. Don’t use any skin products on the area.
2) Brush some of their primer that’s included in the kit onto the skin area that you want to work on.
3) Squeeze a little bit of the product into the area you want to conceal. Use less than you think you need! Spread the product outward using your fingers (I personally like to use a makeup brush) from the center to blend the edges into your real skin. Work fast! The silicone starts to set quite quickly. TIP: If you find the silicone is setting way too quickly, you can try putting the entire syringe into the fridge for 5 minutes before you use it. The cooler temperature helps to prolong the curing stage.
4) Time to add texture to the silicone! Silicone dries to a jelly/rubbery type consistency, which is smoother and shinier than your actual skin. Immediately after you have spread the product out, place the Texture Pad over the area and hold it for at least 1 minute (until the silicone sets, it fully hardens after 5 minutes)

Now, you can apply makeup the way you normally would, paying attention to the area that you covered. Be careful not to rub off the filler when applying your makeup. If you must apply makeup over the Dermaflage, apply gently, using a tapping motion, with your finger or a brush. Set with powder by PATTING it on over the area to get rid of excess shine.
How long will it last once applied?
If applied properly (meaning your skin was completely clean) the application will last up to 36 hours.
My Overall Opinion:
I think this is a great, non-invasive way to hide imperfections in the skin. It does take a bit of practice to perfect, but once you do, the results are wonderful. This is not a permanent way to get rid of any imperfections, but for those days where you want to look your absolute best and not worry about your scars or wrinkles, this is a solution.
I don’t think it is practical to use every single day, as it does take a bit of time to apply.
However, I do know that for brides and for special occasions, it has made a huge difference for them and it helps them walk down the aisle with more confidence and feeling like a better version of themselves.
Where To Buy
To avoid getting a fake or a knockoff, avoid buying from 3rd party retailers. The best place to order is from their official website, to make sure you are getting the AUTHENTIC product.
I’ve also had luck buying on their Amazon store, along with many others. You can also see plenty of other reviews from other people on there too!
