With so many acne skincare products floating around on the market, it’s really hard to decide which one is right for you, and most importantly, which one WORKS! Acne can be plaguing and emotional for people experiencing breakouts. Finding the perfect product to help clear it up is just as frustrating.
I’ve had the honour of trying out the Exposed Body Acne Kit, and here is my review.
First off, I want to say that I don’t have a body acne problem. I was sent this item to review, and this was the one that the representatives offered. I emailed to make sure it was safe for use on the face, and the reps said it definitely was, so I was more than happy and excited to try it out for a month, to get an accurate idea if the product would work for me or not.
The Body Kit comes with a body wash, their Acne Treatment Serum and a Derm X Body cloth.
I don’t have problematic acne, but I do get occasional breakouts that happen due to stress, bad eating habits, or hormonal changes. Again, I was planning on using this on my face!
How to use the system
I read the instructions, and they were very simple. The body wash was meant to be used in the shower along with the Derm-X cloth, followed by applying the acne treatment serum after towel drying. Since this was going to be used on my face, I made my own directions.
- Cleanse face with the Body Wash, using DermX cloth to gently exfoliate and “work in” the cleanser. Rinse off
- Apply the serum, followed by my regular skincare serums and moisturizers.
Exposed Body Wash – Contains salicylic acids to help unclog pores. This was a gel that medium foaming action. Has a minty scent that kind of tingles the skin, and round beads in the gel.
Acne Treatment Serum – Contains benzoyl peroxide to fight acne causing bacteria. Green tea helps protect and heal the skin, while tea tree oil has anti bacterial abilities. This serum is a very lightweight gel that absorbs almost instantly. I would apply this followed by my other skincare products.
For the first week, I must admit, my skin felt very irritated! It was itchy and burned a bit. After the initial 7 days, my skin seemed to settle down and got used to the ingredients.
I noticed that my skin was super smooth right away, and my pores were smaller.
The following weeks, I noticed that the spots on my face where I usually get breakouts (between my brows, chin and upper lip) were clearing up.
I understand that when using these products, you should expect a few breakouts as the products are helping to “push” the yucky stuff underneath to the surface, which I definitely experienced on my cheeks. These weren’t full blow breakouts, but more like little bumps of clogged pores that were under the skin for Lord knows how long! This was great, because all I needed to do was exfoliate with the cloth and it seemed to get rid of the little bumps. I would much rather these clogged pores be closer to the surface so I can scrub them away than deep underneath the skin!
My skin is much clearer using these products, but not perfect quite yet. I believe that if I used the products/kits that were made specifically for the face, my skin would be near perfection! I took a look at their website, and saw that some of the facial products have wonderful ingredients that the body kit products did not!
The difference between Exposed vs. Murad, Proactive and Max Clarity is Exposed Skincare’s products include ingredients that fight blemishes, AND ones that help repair the skin.
Benzoyl Peroxide – Helps kill acne causing bacteria and controls sebum (oil) production.
Salicylic Acid – Mild exfoliant that goes deep down into your pores to unclog them. Since the pores are unclogged, they also appear smaller.
Glycolic Acid – Another exfoliant, but works differently than Salicylic acid because it works more on the outer layer of your skin. It sloughs off the dead skin cells, getting rid of all the yucky stuff just sitting on top of your skin. It helps reveal new, younger looking skin.
Sulfur – Helps absorb excess oil and unclog your pores.
Azelaic Acid – Controls the shedding of skin cells. Excess build up of skin cells can clog pores, so this is where Azelaic acid is helpful.
Green Tea – A natural ingredient that has been known to effectively kill acne bacteria.
Passion Flower – Used for many ailments, including its ability to sooth the skin. It has strong anti-inflammatory properties.
Licorice Root – Used in skincare to help reduce pigmentation, like scarring.
Tea Tree Oil – Used to fight infections (in this case, acne) by killing bacteria.
Aloe Vera – Known for its soothing and moisturizing qualities.
The Acne Treatment Serum only contained Benzoyl Peroxide, green tea extract, and tea tree oil. I REALLY wished it also contained salicylic and glycolic acids, I’m sure that would have gotten rid of all of my clogged pores!
So, Does Exposed Skin Care Work?
I definitely think this acne skin system works! Like I mentioned, the kit I used was made for body acne, so I think that if I used a kit specifically for the face, I would have way better results, as the facial kits have products that have more active ingredients to help fight acne and really unclog the pores.
The company is so confident in their product that they offer a 30 day money back guarantee! What’s the harm in trying?
